Possible Causes
Stuck-open drain valve, Shorted drain pump running continuously, Faulty drain pump relay on control board, Miswired drain pump harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and close any external drain valves before working on the drain system.
Steps:
- Observe behavior: If water drains out as soon as it fills, listen for the drain pump running constantly.
- Access drain pump/valve: Remove the lower rear or side panel to locate the drain pump or solenoid valve connected to the drain hose.
- Check for debris: Inspect the drain line and pump inlet for obstructions that might hold the valve partially open. Clean as needed.
- Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the pump and measure coil resistance. If the pump is shorted or open, replace it. Also check for signs of overheating or melted plastic.
- Control board check: If the pump tests good but runs whenever the unit is powered, the control board relay may be stuck closed. Inspect the board and replace if necessary.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect hoses securely, restore power, and run a cycle to confirm proper fill and drain operation.
Warning: Ensure the drain hose is routed correctly and not below the water level in a way that could cause siphoning.
