Possible Causes

Defective NTC temperature sensor on evaporator, Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector on main PCB, Failed main control PCB temperature input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the OBH Nordica ice maker from the mains before opening any panels. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Power-cycle the unit: Unplug for 10 minutes, then plug back in and restart. If E1 returns immediately, continue.
  • Access the evaporator sensor: Remove the rear or side service panel (depending on model). Locate the small NTC sensor clipped or strapped to the evaporator plate or tubing, usually with two thin wires going to the main PCB.
  • Inspect wiring and connector: Check for pinched, cut, or broken wires between the sensor and the control board. Reseat the connector on the PCB and at the sensor (if removable). Look for corrosion or moisture on the contacts and dry gently if needed.
  • Check sensor mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface; a loose sensor can read incorrect temperatures and trigger E1. Re-clip or re-tape it securely.
  • Test or replace the sensor: If you have a multimeter, measure the sensor resistance at room temperature and compare with the service chart (typical NTC values are around 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). If readings are open, shorted, or far off spec, replace the evaporator temperature sensor with an OBH Nordica-compatible part.
  • If E1 persists: After replacing the sensor and confirming wiring, the fault may be on the main control PCB. At this point, contact an authorized OBH Nordica service center for PCB diagnosis or replacement.
