Possible Causes

Blocked condenser airflow, Failed condenser fan motor, Overheated or failing compressor, High ambient temperature around unit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning or working near the compressor and fan.

Immediate checks:

  • Improve ventilation: Ensure at least 10–15 cm of clearance around all sides and the rear of the unit. Do not operate it inside cabinets or tight enclosures.
  • Clean condenser and vents: Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust from the rear grille and condenser coil. Blocked airflow can cause overheating and trigger E5.
  • Check condenser fan: With the rear panel removed, briefly plug in and start the unit. Confirm that the condenser fan spins smoothly. Unplug again before touching anything.
  • Inspect fan blades: Look for obstructions (plastic wrap, dust clumps) preventing the fan from turning. Remove any debris carefully.
  • Test fan motor: If the fan does not run at all, even when the compressor is trying to start, the fan motor may be defective and should be replaced.
  • Allow cooling: If the compressor is very hot to the touch, leave the unit unplugged for at least 30–60 minutes to cool down, then retry.
  • Persistent E5: If E5 returns quickly after cleaning and ensuring proper airflow, the compressor or control board may be failing. Professional service is recommended for sealed system diagnosis.
