Possible Causes

Jammed ice shovel mechanism, Stripped gearbox gears, Failed DC motor for ice shovel, Obstruction in ice tray or chute

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before touching any moving parts.

Steps to clear jam:

  • Open the lid and inspect: Look at the ice shovel or rotating tray assembly. Remove any loose ice chunks or foreign objects blocking movement.
  • Manually move the shovel: Gently try to move the shovel or tray by hand. It should move with some resistance but not be completely stuck. Do not force it excessively.
  • Check for ice buildup: If thick ice has frozen around the shovel, allow the unit to sit unplugged with the lid open until the ice melts. Wipe away excess water.
  • Access motor and gearbox: Remove the side or top cover to expose the shovel motor and gearbox. Inspect for broken plastic gears or a loose drive shaft.
  • Test motor: With the unit briefly powered (and fingers clear), start a cycle and observe whether the motor attempts to turn. Unplug immediately after testing.
  • Replace components if needed: If the motor hums but the shovel does not move, the gearbox may be stripped. If the motor is silent and receives power, it may be burned out. Replace the ice shovel motor/gearbox assembly with a compatible OBH Nordica part.
