Possible Causes
Failed compressor, Refrigerant leak, Blocked capillary tube, Faulty start relay or overload on compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system. Unplug the unit before any inspection.
User checks:
- Listen and feel: After starting a cycle, listen for the compressor. It should run with a low humming sound. Carefully touch the compressor shell; it should become warm but not extremely hot.
- Check evaporator: After 10–15 minutes of operation, the evaporator plate should feel very cold and may start to frost lightly. If it remains at room temperature, cooling is not occurring.
- Clean condenser and fan: Dust buildup can cause overheating and poor performance. Clean the rear coil and fan area thoroughly.
- Observe for leaks: Look for oily spots on tubing or around the compressor, which can indicate refrigerant leakage.
- Professional repair: If the compressor runs but no cooling occurs, or if it repeatedly tries to start and clicks off, the sealed system likely needs professional service or replacement of the unit.
