Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator plate, Corroded sensor connector on PCB, Damaged sensor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before opening any panels. Avoid touching the evaporator with bare hands when cold.

  • Step 1 – Power cycle: Unplug for 10 minutes, then restart. If E3 returns, proceed.
  • Step 2 – Access evaporator area: Remove the top cover and front panel as needed to expose the metal evaporator fingers/plate where ice forms.
  • Step 3 – Locate the sensor: Find the small probe or NTC sensor clipped or glued to the evaporator surface, usually with two thin wires leading to the PCB.
  • Step 4 – Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator. If it has come loose, reattach using thermal tape or a metal clip rated for low temperatures.
  • Step 5 – Inspect wiring: Trace the sensor wires back to the control board. Check for cuts, pinches, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector.
  • Step 6 – Test sensor resistance: At room temperature, measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the ambient sensor if they are the same type; large discrepancies indicate a faulty sensor.
  • Step 7 – Replace sensor: If readings are out of range or intermittent, install a new Pro Breeze evaporator temperature sensor (NTC) and secure it firmly to the evaporator.
  • Step 8 – Reassemble and test: Refit panels, plug in, and run several cycles to confirm normal ice size and that E3 does not reappear.
