Possible Causes
Obstruction blocking ice shovel movement, Stripped gears in ice shovel motor assembly, Faulty position sensor or limit switch, Loose motor wiring or failed motor coil
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before reaching into the ice-making compartment or working near moving parts.
- Step 1 – Remove ice basket: Take out the ice basket and visually inspect the ice shovel or tray arm for jammed ice, foreign objects, or heavy frost buildup.
- Step 2 – Clear obstructions: Gently remove any stuck ice cubes with a plastic utensil. Do not use metal tools that can damage the evaporator or shovel.
- Step 3 – Check free movement: With power still disconnected, manually move the shovel/tray through its range of motion. It should move smoothly without binding.
- Step 4 – Inspect motor and gears: Remove the cover over the shovel motor (usually behind the ice compartment). Look for cracked or stripped plastic gears and signs of overheating.
- Step 5 – Verify wiring: Ensure the motor connector and any position sensor/limit switch connectors are firmly seated on the PCB and not corroded.
- Step 6 – Test motor (optional): With a multimeter, check motor coil resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Step 7 – Replace components: If gears are damaged, replace the complete Pro Breeze ice shovel motor assembly. If a limit switch or Hall sensor is faulty, replace the shovel position sensor.
- Step 8 – Reassemble and test: Refit covers and basket, plug in the unit, and run a cycle to confirm the shovel returns to home position and E4 is cleared.
