Possible Causes
Reservoir not filled to minimum level, Misreading water level sensor, Reservoir not seated correctly, Scale buildup on level probes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning the reservoir or level sensor.
- Step 1 – Fill reservoir: Remove the cover and fill the water reservoir to the indicated MAX line using clean, potable water. Do not overfill.
- Step 2 – Reseat reservoir (if removable): Ensure the water tank or reservoir is fully seated in its slot. Some RCA models will show ADD if the tank is not locked in place.
- Step 3 – Clean level sensor: If ADD persists with a full tank, clean the water level float or probes with a soft cloth and white vinegar to remove mineral deposits. Rinse thoroughly.
- Step 4 – Reset unit: Plug the unit back in, press power, and start a new cycle. If the ADD indication remains, the water level sensor/float switch may be faulty and require replacement.
