Possible Causes
Defective main control board (PCB), Corrupted firmware, Shorted sensor or motor overloading the board, Loose multi-pin harness connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Always unplug the ice maker before opening the cabinet or touching the control board.
- Step 1 – Hard reset: Unplug the unit for at least 15 minutes. Press and hold the power button (if accessible) for 10 seconds while unplugged to discharge residual power. Plug back in and test.
- Step 2 – Inspect wiring harnesses: Remove the cover to access the main PCB. Check all multi-pin connectors for secure fit. Look for signs of burning, discoloration, or moisture on the board.
- Step 3 – Check for shorts: Inspect attached components (pumps, motors, fans) for obvious damage or burnt smell. A shorted component can cause the board to fault.
- Step 4 – Dry moisture: If you see condensation or water near the board, dry the area thoroughly and improve ventilation. Do not operate the unit with visible moisture on the PCB.
- Step 5 – Replace PCB if needed: If E6 persists and no external component is clearly faulty, replace the RCA main control board with the correct part number for your model. This typically resolves persistent E6 errors.
