Possible Causes
Blocked infrared ice-full sensor, Misaligned ice level arm, Failed optical sensor board, Loose sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning or adjusting internal sensors.
- Step 1 – Empty the ice basket: Remove all ice from the storage bin. Overfilled bins can block the ice-full sensor and trigger E7.
- Step 2 – Clean sensor area: If your RCA model uses an infrared sensor, gently clean the emitter and receiver windows with a soft cloth. Dust or frost can block the beam.
- Step 3 – Check ice level arm (if equipped): Some RCA units use a mechanical arm. Make sure it moves freely up and down and is not stuck in the "full" position. Clear any ice blocking its movement.
- Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Ensure connectors are tight and wires are not pinched or broken.
- Step 5 – Test operation: Reassemble, plug in, and run a cycle with the bin empty. If E7 returns immediately, the ice full sensor assembly or its small PCB is likely defective and should be replaced.
