Possible Causes
Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Disconnected thermistor plug, Damaged thermistor wiring, Faulty main control PCB temperature circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power before removing covers.
- Allow defrost: If the unit has heavy frost on the evaporator, unplug it and let it sit with the lid open for at least 1–2 hours to fully defrost. Then restart.
- Check ambient temperature: Ensure the Salter ice maker is used in a room between about 10–32°C. Extreme temperatures can cause sensor errors.
- Inspect thermistor connection (advanced): Remove the rear or side panel. Locate the small bead-type sensor or probe clipped to the evaporator plate or tubing. Verify the connector is firmly plugged into the main PCB and that the cable is not pinched or cut.
- Clean corrosion: If the thermistor connector shows corrosion, gently clean with electrical contact cleaner and reconnect.
Persistent E3 usually indicates a failed thermistor or a defective control board. Replacement of the thermistor is typically the first step.
