Possible Causes
Jammed ice tray, Broken tray drive gear, Faulty ice tray motor, Defective position sensor or limit switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before attempting to free any moving parts.
- Check for jammed ice: Open the lid and inspect the ice tray or cube grid. Remove any large or misshapen ice chunks that may be blocking movement.
- Manually move tray (if possible): Gently try to move the tray or grid by hand. It should move slightly without grinding. Do not force it.
- Inspect for broken plastic: Look for cracked or missing teeth on the tray drive gear or linkage. Broken parts will cause the motor to stall and trigger E4.
- Power reset: After clearing jams, unplug for 5 minutes, then plug in and start a new cycle to see if the tray cycles normally.
If the tray still fails to rotate or tilt and E4 reappears, the tray motor or position sensor assembly likely needs replacement.
