Possible Causes

Overheated compressor, Faulty compressor start relay, Defective overload protector, Low mains voltage or power surge

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before inspection. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system.

  • Ventilation check: Ensure there is at least 10–15 cm clearance around all sides of the Salter ice maker. Blocked vents cause overheating and E5.
  • Clean condenser: Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust from the condenser coil and fan area at the back or side of the unit.
  • Cool-down period: If the unit has been running continuously, unplug it and allow it to cool for 30–60 minutes, then restart.
  • Stable power: Plug the unit directly into a wall socket (no extension leads or multi-way adaptors) to ensure proper voltage.

If E5 recurs immediately and the compressor does not run, the start relay or overload protector on the compressor may be faulty and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
