Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not attempt to open or modify the sealed refrigeration system. Refrigerant handling requires specialized tools and certification.
- Check fan operation: Confirm the condenser fan is running and air is blowing from the rear or side vents.
- Feel evaporator: After 5–10 minutes of operation, carefully touch the metal evaporator plate. It should feel very cold. If it remains at room temperature, cooling is not occurring.
- Ambient temperature: Ensure the unit is used within the recommended room temperature range (typically 10–32°C).
- Listen to compressor: Place your hand on the side of the unit near the compressor. You should feel vibration and slight warmth if it is running.
If the compressor runs but there is no cooling, or if it fails to start and hums loudly, the sealed system likely has a fault. This is not user-repairable; contact a refrigeration technician or Salter service.
