Possible Causes

Stuck float switch, Dirty water level sensor, Air bubble around sensor, Faulty water level sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug before working inside the reservoir.

  • Reset sensor: Empty the reservoir completely, then refill to the MAX line. This can free a stuck float.
  • Clean sensor: If your Salter model uses a float or probe, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild detergent, then rinse.
  • Tap to dislodge air: Gently tap the side of the unit near the sensor area to dislodge any trapped air bubbles.
  • Check for tilt: Ensure the unit is level; tilting can cause the sensor to read incorrectly.

If the 'Add Water' indicator remains on despite correct level and cleaning, the water level sensor may need replacement.
