How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator or switch off the circuit breaker before working near electrical components. Turn off the water supply valve before disconnecting any water lines.
Step-by-step checks:
- Verify water supply valve: Locate the cold water shutoff valve feeding the refrigerator (usually under the sink or in the basement). Ensure it is fully open. If the valve is a self-piercing saddle valve, consider replacing it with a standard drill-type valve for better flow.
- Check household water pressure: Dispense water from the refrigerator dispenser (if present). If the stream is weak, you may have low pressure. Samsung ice makers typically require at least 20 psi. Correct plumbing issues or call a plumber if pressure is low.
- Inspect the water inlet valve: Pull the refrigerator forward and disconnect power. Remove the rear lower access panel. Locate the refrigerator water inlet valve assembly. Check for kinks in the water line and visible mineral buildup on the valve screens. If screens are clogged, replace the valve; do not attempt to drill or scrape them out.
- Check for frozen fill tube: Inside the freezer, locate the ice maker fill tube above the ice maker. If it is blocked with ice, gently thaw it using a hair dryer on low heat, keeping the dryer moving and away from plastic parts. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
- Reset the ice maker: On most Samsung ice makers, press and hold the Test or Reset button on the ice maker for about 3–5 seconds until you hear a chime. Wait 24 hours to see if ice production resumes.
If the error persists after these steps, the water inlet valve or ice maker assembly may need replacement.
