Possible Causes
Failed ice maker motor, Ice maker heater not warming tray, Ice maker sensor not detecting freeze point, Mechanical binding in ejector mechanism
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before touching the ice maker mechanism.
Steps:
- Check for ice jam: Remove the ice bucket and inspect the tray and ejector for jammed cubes. Gently free any stuck ice.
- Run test cycle: Press and hold the Test button on the ice maker for 3–5 seconds. If the motor does not turn or tray does not twist, the motor or heater may be faulty.
- Defrost tray: If the tray is frozen solid to the housing, unplug the unit and allow the ice maker to thaw completely. If the problem recurs, the heater is likely not working.
- Replace ice maker: Replace the ice maker assembly if it fails to harvest after defrosting and testing.
