Compressor tries to start but hums and then clicks off, no ice production

Safety: Disconnect power. Compressor terminals carry high current.

• Check voltage: Verify correct line voltage at the unit while attempting to start. Low voltage can prevent starting.
• Inspect start components: Access the compressor terminal cover and examine the start relay and capacitor for burns or bulging.
• Test capacitor: Use a capacitance meter to verify the start capacitor value. Replace if out of tolerance.
• Replace start relay: If the relay is burned or rattles when shaken, replace it with a Scotsman-approved part.
• If compressor still will not start: The compressor may be mechanically locked and will require replacement by a refrigeration technician.
