Possible Causes
Open bin thermostat, bin sensor wiring open, sensor bulb broken, control board sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.
- Locate bin thermostat/sensor: On many Scotsman models, a thermostat bulb or thermistor is mounted in or above the bin area.
- Visual inspection: Check for a broken capillary tube, damaged sensor bulb, or disconnected thermistor. Ensure the sensor is firmly mounted and not dangling.
- Check connections: Reseat the bin sensor connector at the control board. Look for corrosion or loose pins.
- Test the sensor: Use a multimeter to check continuity (for thermostat type) or resistance (for thermistor type) according to the service manual values. An open circuit usually indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace if faulty: If readings are out of range or open, replace the bin thermostat or bin thermistor with a Scotsman-compatible part.
- Control board: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the control board may be misreading the sensor and could require replacement.
