Possible Causes
Bin full switch stuck closed, bin switch wiring shorted, bin switch bracket bent, control board input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker or switch off the breaker before servicing.
- Verify bin is not actually full: Empty the bin and ensure no ice is wedged around the bin switch or sensing arm.
- Inspect bin full switch: Locate the bin full switch assembly (often near the top of the bin or chute). Check that the actuator moves freely and is not obstructed by ice or debris.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the bin switch to the control board for pinched, broken, or corroded wires. Reseat the connector at the control board.
- Test the switch: With a multimeter, check continuity of the bin full switch. It should change state (open/closed) when the actuator is moved. If it remains closed regardless of position, replace the switch.
- Control board check: If the switch tests good and wiring is intact, the control board input may be defective. Further diagnosis by a technician or replacement of the control module may be required.
