Possible Causes
Discharge thermistor open or short, sensor not attached to discharge line, wiring damage, control board sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power. The discharge line can be very hot; allow it to cool before touching.
- Locate discharge sensor: Find the thermistor clipped to the compressor discharge line.
- Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clamped to the line and not hanging loose.
- Inspect wiring: Look for burned, brittle, or cut wires near the hot discharge area.
- Test resistance: Measure sensor resistance and compare to specifications. Replace if open, shorted, or out of range.
- Control board: If the sensor and wiring are good, the control board may be at fault.
