Possible Causes

Scale buildup on evaporator, hot gas valve not opening, harvest assist mechanism jammed, weak compressor causing poor harvest, thermistor misreading harvest temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and water before servicing. Hot surfaces and moving parts may be present.

  • Descale evaporator: Follow Scotsman’s cleaning procedure using approved ice machine descaler. Remove scale from the evaporator plate and water system.
  • Check harvest assist: Inspect the harvest assist solenoid or motor (if equipped) for free movement. Clear any ice jams and ensure the mechanism is not obstructed.
  • Test hot gas valve: During harvest, the hot gas valve should energize. Listen for a click and feel for a temperature change in the hot gas line. A technician can test coil resistance and voltage.
  • Inspect thermistor: Verify the evaporator thermistor is properly attached and not coated in heavy scale. Clean or replace if readings are out of range.
  • Professional service: If mechanical issues are ruled out, a refrigeration problem or control board fault may be present and should be handled by a qualified technician.
