Possible Causes
Evaporator thermistor shorted, thermistor out of position, control board misinterpreting temperature, severe scale causing false temperature readings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing sensors or the control compartment.
- Locate evaporator thermistor: It is usually clipped to the evaporator plate or tubing. Ensure it is firmly attached and making good contact.
- Inspect for scale: Heavy scale can insulate the sensor. Clean the evaporator and sensor area with approved descaler.
- Check wiring: Inspect the thermistor wiring for damage or shorts. Reseat the connector at the control board.
- Test thermistor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to Scotsman’s specifications. A very low resistance (near short) indicates failure. Replace if out of range.
- Control board: If the thermistor and wiring are good, the control board may be faulty and require replacement.
