Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coil, failed condenser fan motor, high ambient temperature, refrigerant overcharge or restriction, discharge temperature sensor fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power. Components near the compressor and discharge line can be very hot.
- Clean condenser: Thoroughly clean the condenser coil with a brush and vacuum. Ensure nothing blocks airflow around the unit.
- Check condenser fan: Verify the fan blade spins freely and the motor runs when the compressor is on. Replace the condenser fan motor if it does not run.
- Verify installation: Ensure the unit has adequate clearance per Scotsman’s installation manual and is not installed in a confined, unventilated space.
- Inspect discharge sensor: If equipped with a discharge line thermistor, check that it is properly attached and not damaged. Test resistance and replace if out of spec.
- Refrigeration issues: If the code persists after cleaning and fan repair, a refrigeration problem (overcharge, restriction, non-condensables) may exist and must be addressed by a certified technician.
