Possible Causes

Dirty or blocked ice full infrared sensor, Misaligned sensor emitter/receiver pair, Failed ice full sensor board, Damaged sensor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning or adjusting sensors.

Steps to resolve E3:

  • Locate the sensor: On many Silonn models, the ice full sensor is an infrared pair (emitter and receiver) mounted on opposite sides of the ice basket opening.
  • Clean the lenses: Use a soft cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the sensor windows. Do not use abrasive cleaners or soak the sensor.
  • Check alignment: Ensure the emitter and receiver are directly facing each other and not bent or loose. Tighten any loose mounting screws.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Look for pinched, cut, or disconnected wires. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
  • Test operation: Plug the unit back in and start a cycle. When the basket is empty, the E3 code should clear. As ice accumulates, the sensor should stop production when the basket is full.
  • Replace if defective: If E3 persists and the wiring is intact, replace the ice full infrared sensor assembly or the small sensor PCB, depending on your model.

When to call a professional: If sensor replacement requires significant disassembly or soldering, contact a technician.
