Possible Causes
Stuck water level float, faulty water level sensor, mineral buildup on float mechanism, disconnected sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker and turn off the water supply (if plumbed-in) before servicing.
Steps:
- Check water tank: Remove the water reservoir (on portable models) or open the tank cover. Ensure the tank is filled to the correct level and that no foreign objects are blocking the float.
- Clean the float: Locate the float or level sensor assembly. If there is visible scale or slime, clean it with warm water and a mild vinegar solution. Move the float up and down to ensure it moves freely.
- Inspect sensor wiring: For electronic level sensors, follow the wires to the control board and verify the connector is fully seated and not corroded.
- Reset the unit: After cleaning, reassemble the tank, plug the unit back in, and press the power button to reset. If E3 persists, the sensor may be defective.
- Replace sensor/float: Remove the mounting screws or clips holding the water level sensor or float switch. Install the new part, ensuring the float moves freely and the harness is properly connected.
