Possible Causes

Failed circulation water pump, blocked pump impeller, open pump winding, loose pump connector on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker and drain any water from the reservoir before removing the pump.

Steps:

  • Access the pump: Remove the front or side panel to reach the water reservoir area. The circulation pump is usually mounted at the bottom of the tank with hoses leading to the evaporator tray.
  • Check for blockage: Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses and inspect for debris or scale. Flush with warm water and vinegar if needed.
  • Inspect impeller: Remove the pump cover (if serviceable) and verify the impeller spins freely. If jammed, clean and reassemble.
  • Test pump electrically: With the pump disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure resistance across the pump terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed pump.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the pump to the control board. Reseat the connector and look for corrosion.
  • Replace pump: If the pump is seized or electrically open, install a new circulation water pump compatible with your SMAD model. Reconnect hoses securely and check for leaks.
  • Test: Refill the reservoir, restore power, and start a cycle. Confirm that water flows over the evaporator and E7 is cleared.
