Possible Causes

Low water level in reservoir, Blocked water inlet screen, Faulty water level sensor, Kinked or pinched water inlet hose (plumbed-in models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the SPT ice maker before opening any panels or reaching inside the unit.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Check water level: Remove the ice basket and inspect the water reservoir. Fill with clean, potable water up to the MAX line. Do not overfill.
  • Inspect the float / water level sensor: Locate the float or water level probe in the reservoir. Make sure it moves freely and is not stuck with scale or debris. Clean with a soft brush and warm water with mild dish soap, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Clean inlet screen (plumbed-in SPT models): Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the inlet hose and inspect the small mesh filter at the inlet fitting. Rinse under running water and reinstall.
  • Reset the unit: Plug the ice maker back in, power it on, and press the power or reset button (if available) to clear the error. Allow a full cycle (10–20 minutes) to see if E1 returns.
  • If E1 persists: The water level sensor assembly may be faulty. Replacement typically requires removing the rear or bottom cover, disconnecting the sensor harness, and installing a new OEM sensor. If you are not comfortable with electrical work, contact a qualified technician.
