Possible Causes

Ice tray motor failure, Broken tray position sensor, Wiring harness issue between control board and tray motor, Ice tray physically jammed by scale or debris

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before inspection.

  • Inspect for physical jams: Remove the ice basket and look at the ice tray. Check for mineral scale buildup or foreign objects preventing the tray from rotating or tilting. Clean with warm water and a soft brush.
  • Power cycle: Plug the unit back in and power on. Listen for the tray motor attempting to move during startup. If you hear humming but no movement, the motor or gears may be seized.
  • Check wiring (advanced): Remove the outer cover to access the tray motor and position sensor. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for loose plugs or corrosion. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • If the tray still does not move: Replace the ice tray motor assembly and, if separate, the tray position sensor. This typically involves removing mounting screws, disconnecting the motor harness, and installing the new OEM part.
