Possible Causes
Blocked condenser airflow, Dirty condenser coils, Failed condenser fan motor, Overheating compressor or faulty overload protector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning or servicing.
- Check ventilation: Ensure there is at least 4–6 inches of clearance around the sides and back of the ice maker. Do not place it inside a closed cabinet.
- Clean condenser coils: Access the rear or bottom of the unit where the condenser coil is located. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the coil fins.
- Inspect condenser fan: If your SPT model has a condenser fan, spin the blades by hand (with power disconnected). They should move freely. If seized or noisy, the fan motor may need replacement.
- Allow cooling: Let the unit sit unplugged for 30–60 minutes to allow the compressor overload to reset. Then plug in and test.
- If E5 returns: The compressor overload protector or compressor itself may be failing. These repairs require refrigerant handling and should be performed by a licensed refrigeration technician.
