Possible Causes
Blocked ice full sensor window, Misaligned infrared emitter/receiver, Failed ice full sensor board, Loose sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the ice maker before cleaning sensors.
- Clean sensor windows: On many SPT models, the ice full sensor is an infrared pair near the top of the ice bin. Wipe both sides (emitter and receiver) with a soft, damp cloth to remove frost, mineral film, or dust.
- Check for obstructions: Make sure the ice basket is seated correctly and not blocking the sensor path. Remove excess ice that may be piled up directly in front of the sensor.
- Inspect alignment: Verify that the emitter and receiver are directly facing each other and not bent out of position.
- Test operation: Plug the unit back in and run a cycle. If E6 persists, gently wiggle the sensor harness at the control board to see if the error changes (indicating a loose connection).
- Replace sensor: If cleaning and reseating do not help, replace the ice full sensor assembly. This usually involves removing a small bracket, disconnecting the harness, and installing the new board or sensor pair.
