Possible Causes
Defective ambient thermistor, Sensor disconnected from control board, Damaged sensor wiring, Control board input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before removing covers.
- Locate ambient sensor: On many SPT ice makers, the ambient thermistor is mounted near the air intake or on the control board bracket. Refer to your model's diagram if available.
- Inspect wiring: Check that the sensor plug is firmly seated on the control board. Look for broken or pinched wires.
- Check environment: Ensure the unit is not placed in extreme temperatures (below 50°F / 10°C or above 90°F / 32°C), which can trigger sensor-related faults.
- Replace sensor: If wiring is intact and E7 persists, replace the ambient temperature sensor with an OEM part. Route the new sensor along the same path and secure it away from hot components.
