Possible Causes
Stuck or scaled float switch, Failed float switch contacts, Misadjusted water level sensor, Control board misreading level input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and shut off water. Water may spill when opening the unit; have towels ready.
Steps to address EC02:
- 1. Access the reservoir: Remove the ice bin and front panel to expose the water reservoir or sump area.
- 2. Inspect the float or level sensor: Locate the float assembly or electronic level sensor. Check for mineral buildup, debris, or mechanical binding that prevents free movement.
- 3. Clean the float: Remove the float (if applicable) and soak it in a solution of warm water and Sub-Zero-approved ice machine cleaner. Gently scrub to remove scale. Rinse thoroughly and reinstall.
- 4. Test switch operation: With power off, use a multimeter to test the float switch contacts for proper open/closed operation as you move the float. Replace the switch if readings are inconsistent.
- 5. Verify water level: Restore power and water, then observe a fill cycle. Adjust the float or sensor position only if the service manual specifies an adjustment procedure. Do not bend components beyond factory tolerances.
- 6. Control board: If the level components are good but EC02 persists, the control board input may be faulty and should be checked by a professional.
