Possible Causes
Failed hot gas valve coil, Stuck hot gas valve, Wiring issue to hot gas valve, Control board not energizing valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before servicing. Hot gas lines can be very hot during operation; allow time to cool.
Steps to address EC04:
- 1. Observe harvest behavior: If ice remains frozen to the evaporator and does not release during harvest, the hot gas valve may not be opening.
- 2. Access the valve: Remove the front or side panel to locate the hot gas solenoid valve in the sealed system piping near the compressor.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Check the valve coil wiring and connector for damage or loose connections. Reseat the connector.
- 4. Test the coil: With power off, measure the coil resistance with a multimeter. An open coil indicates a failed valve coil that must be replaced.
- 5. Replace valve coil or assembly: If the coil is removable, replace just the coil. If the valve body is stuck or leaking, the entire valve must be replaced by a certified refrigeration technician, as it involves opening the sealed system.
- 6. Control board: If the valve and wiring are good but it never energizes during harvest, the control board output may be faulty and should be professionally diagnosed.
