Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor, Thermistor out of position inside cabinet, Damaged harness between thermistor and control board, Faulty control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels.
Steps to address EC30:
- 1. Check installation environment: Ensure the ice maker is not installed in an area outside Sub-Zero's specified ambient temperature range (typically 50–100°F). Extreme temperatures can trigger sensor-related errors.
- 2. Locate the ambient thermistor: This sensor is usually mounted inside the ice maker cabinet, often behind an interior panel or near the air intake. Refer to the tech sheet for exact location.
- 3. Inspect sensor placement: Make sure the thermistor is not touching the evaporator plate or other cold surfaces, which can cause false readings. Reposition it in its original clip or bracket if necessary.
- 4. Test the thermistor: With power off, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the Sub-Zero chart. Replace the thermistor if readings are out of range or unstable when the wire is moved.
- 5. Examine wiring and board: Look for pinched wires, especially where panels or brackets may have compressed the harness. Reseat the connector at the control board. If the sensor and wiring are good, the control board may require replacement by a qualified technician.
Note: Do not relocate the thermistor to a different area of the cabinet; it must remain in the factory-specified position for accurate control.
