Possible Causes
Clogged drain line, Failed drain pump, Kinked or improperly routed drain hose, Blocked drain outlet or air gap
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working on the drain system. Water may spill; have towels or a shallow pan ready.
Steps to address EC80:
- 1. Inspect the external drain: Check the household drain connection, standpipe, or air gap for clogs. Clear any visible obstructions.
- 2. Check the drain hose: Access the rear or bottom of the unit (depending on model). Look for kinks, sags, or sharp bends in the drain hose. Straighten and secure the hose with proper slope to the drain.
- 3. Clean internal drain: Remove the ice bin and access the internal drain opening in the sump or reservoir. Use a small brush and warm water to clear debris or scale.
- 4. Test the drain pump: With power restored briefly, initiate a drain or clean cycle and listen for the pump. If it hums but does not move water, or is silent, disconnect power and proceed.
- 5. Electrical checks: With power off, test the pump for continuity. An open circuit indicates a failed pump. Inspect wiring and connectors for corrosion or burns.
- 6. Replace the drain pump: If defective, remove mounting screws or clips, disconnect the hoses (expect some water), and install a new OEM Sub-Zero drain pump. Ensure all hose clamps are tight to prevent leaks.
Note: After repair, run a cleaning cycle to flush the drain system and confirm proper operation.
