Possible Causes

Low water pressure to unit, Clogged inlet screen on water valve, Failed water inlet valve coil, Faulty water level sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker and close the water supply valve before disconnecting any water lines.

Water supply checks:

  • Verify water is on: Confirm the shutoff valve feeding the Summit ice maker is fully open.
  • Check water pressure: The unit typically needs at least 20–40 psi. If other fixtures in the home have low pressure, address plumbing issues first.
  • Inspect inlet hose: Look for kinks or sharp bends in the water line to the ice maker. Straighten or replace as needed.

Valve and sensor:

  • Access the water inlet valve: Usually located at the rear bottom of the unit where the water line connects.
  • Clean the inlet screen: Disconnect the water line, remove the small mesh screen from the valve inlet, and rinse debris under running water.
  • Test the valve coil: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the valve terminals. An open circuit indicates a bad coil. Replace the water inlet valve assembly if defective.
  • Check water level sensor or float: Some Summit models use a float switch or water level sensor in the reservoir. Clean any scale or slime and ensure it moves freely and is properly connected.

After service: Reconnect water, restore power, and run a test cycle to confirm E5 is cleared and water fills correctly.
