Display shows E6, unit may start but shuts down with beeping, no ice harvest.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and close the water supply before working inside the ice compartment.
Mechanical checks:
- Inspect evaporator and ice slab: Open the door and look at the evaporator plate. If ice is excessively thick or stuck, E6 can occur.
- Manually melt ice: Use warm (not boiling) water in a spray bottle to melt stuck ice off the evaporator. Do not use sharp tools that can puncture the plate.
- Check water distribution: Ensure the water distribution tube or spray bar is not clogged, causing uneven freezing.
Harvest system:
- Locate the hot gas valve (solenoid valve on the discharge line) and its wiring. If the valve coil is open (no continuity) or the valve is stuck, the unit cannot enter harvest.
- Inspect the harvest/defrost sensor (if equipped) on the evaporator. Clean it and check wiring.
- If you have a multimeter and service manual, verify the hot gas valve receives power during harvest. If not, the main control board may be faulty.
Recommendation: Because harvest faults often involve the sealed refrigeration system, if cleaning and basic checks do not resolve E6, contact a refrigeration technician.
