Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Obstructed fan blades, Loose fan wiring connector, Faulty fan driver on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the fan. Beware of sharp metal edges inside the cabinet.

Inspection:

  • Locate the evaporator fan: Typically mounted near the evaporator coil or behind an interior panel in Summit ice makers.
  • Check for obstructions: Remove any ice, plastic, or wiring that may be blocking the fan blades.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or resistance. If stiff or noisy, the motor is likely failing.

Electrical checks:

  • Inspect the fan wiring harness and connector at the motor and control board. Reseat any loose plugs.
  • If you have a multimeter, check for proper voltage at the fan connector when the unit is running. If voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the evaporator fan motor.
  • If no voltage is present and wiring is intact, the main control board may be defective.

After replacement: Reassemble panels, restore power, and verify that the fan runs during cooling and that E7 does not reappear.
