Possible Causes

Dirty bin full sensor lenses, Misaligned infrared emitter/receiver, Failed bin full sensor board, Broken sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before working near the bin sensor electronics.

Clean and align:

  • Locate the bin full sensor: Many Summit ice makers use an infrared (IR) sensor pair near the top of the ice bin (emitter on one side, receiver on the other).
  • Clean lenses: Use a soft cloth dampened with mild soap solution to clean the sensor windows. Remove any frost, mineral deposits, or dirt that could block the beam.
  • Check alignment: Ensure both sides of the sensor are firmly mounted and facing each other directly. Adjust brackets if needed.

Electrical checks:

  • Inspect the sensor wiring harness for damage or loose connectors at the sensor and control board.
  • If cleaning and alignment do not clear E8, the bin full sensor assembly may be defective and should be replaced.

Note: A faulty bin sensor can falsely indicate a full bin and stop ice production even when the bin is empty.
