Possible Causes

Misaligned ice thickness probe, Mineral buildup on thickness sensor, Failed ice thickness sensor, Loose sensor harness connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow any moving parts to stop before reaching into the ice-making area.

  • Step 1 – Locate thickness sensor: On Teendow ice makers, the ice thickness probe is typically a metal or plastic arm or sensor near the evaporator plate that detects ice slab thickness.
  • Step 2 – Clean the probe: Use warm water and a soft cloth or nylon brush to remove scale, slime, and mineral deposits from the probe and surrounding area. Avoid abrasive pads that can damage the sensor.
  • Step 3 – Check alignment: Ensure the probe is positioned according to the user manual—usually just touching or slightly away from the ice slab when fully formed. Gently bend or adjust the arm if it is out of place.
  • Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Trace the sensor wires back to the control board. Reseat the connector and check for damage.
  • Step 5 – Replace sensor if needed: If cleaning and alignment do not clear E5, replace the ice thickness sensor with a Teendow-compatible part and retest.
