Ice maker runs but does not produce ice, display shows E02
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Avoid bending refrigerant lines near the evaporator.
- Step 1 – Confirm symptom: Unit powers on, fan and compressor may run, but no ice is produced and E02 is displayed.
- Step 2 – Locate evaporator thermistor: Remove the ice bin and inner liner panels as needed. The thermistor is typically clipped to or near the evaporator plate or grid with two small wires leading back to the control.
- Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor leads for cuts, pinches, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector at both the thermistor and control board ends.
- Step 4 – Test thermistor: With power off, disconnect the thermistor from the harness. Measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to U-Line service chart (commonly ~10kΩ at 77°F/25°C). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of spec, replace the thermistor.
- Step 5 – Replace thermistor: Unclip the old sensor from the evaporator, route the new one along the same path, and secure it with the original clip or thermal tape. Avoid direct contact with sharp edges.
- Step 6 – Clear error: Reconnect power. Some models clear E02 automatically after a successful cycle; others may require a power reset (unplug 5 minutes, then reconnect).
If E02 returns with a known-good thermistor, the main control board may have a failed sensor input and should be replaced.
