Display shows E09, unit may overfill or underfill ice grid with water
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power and water supply before accessing internal water components. Use gloves when handling scale remover chemicals.
- Step 1 – Observe fill behavior: Start a cycle and watch the water fill. Overfilling or very low fill combined with E09 points to a level sensing issue.
- Step 2 – Locate water level sensor: Depending on model, this may be a float switch, conductivity probes in the reservoir, or a pressure sensor.
- Step 3 – Clean sensor and reservoir: Drain the reservoir. Remove mineral scale from the sensor and reservoir using a manufacturer-approved ice machine cleaner. Rinse thoroughly.
- Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the control board. Reseat connectors and look for corrosion.
- Step 5 – Test sensor: For float switches, check continuity when actuated. For conductivity probes, verify no shorts between probes when dry. Replace the sensor if it fails tests.
If cleaning and sensor replacement do not resolve E09, the control board’s level sensing circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
