Possible Causes

Defective cabinet NTC temperature sensor, Broken or shorted sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector at main PCB, Failed main control PCB input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Vestfrost ice maker from the mains before removing any panels. Use a multimeter only if you are comfortable working with electrical components.

Steps to check and address E1:

  • Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 returns immediately, continue with checks.
  • Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Vestfrost ice makers, the cabinet NTC sensor is clipped to the evaporator plate area or mounted on the interior liner behind a small cover. Remove the inner cover or front service panel as per the user/service manual.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor leads from the sensor to the main control PCB for cuts, pinches, or signs of moisture damage. Reseat the connector at the PCB.
  • Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the PCB and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare the reading to the Vestfrost temperature/resistance chart (typically around 5–15 kΩ at room temperature). If the reading is open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is faulty.
  • Replace if faulty: If the NTC is out of spec, replace it with a compatible Vestfrost cabinet NTC temperature sensor. Route the new sensor wiring along the original path and secure it away from sharp edges and hot components.
  • Check PCB input: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, the main control PCB sensor input may be defective. Inspect the PCB for burn marks or corrosion. Replacement of the main control PCB is recommended and should be done by a qualified technician.

When to call a professional: If you are unable to access the sensor safely or do not have the resistance chart, contact an authorized Vestfrost service center.
