Possible Causes

Blocked drain hose or outlet, Failed drain pump motor, Kinked or improperly routed drain line, Air lock in drain hose

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before working on the drain system. Water may spill; have towels or a tray ready.

Steps to resolve E13:

  • Check external drain: Ensure the building drain connection is not blocked and that the hose from the ice maker is not submerged in standing water.
  • Inspect drain hose: Follow the hose from the pump outlet to the drain. Straighten any kinks and ensure there are no high loops that could trap air.
  • Clean internal drain: Access the internal drain area or sump. Remove any ice chips, scale, or debris that could block the drain inlet.
  • Test drain pump: With the unit unplugged, access the drain pump and check for obstructions in the impeller housing. Spin the impeller gently to ensure it moves freely.
  • Electrical test: Measure pump coil resistance with a multimeter. If open or shorted, replace the pump. With power applied (only if safe and trained), verify that the control board sends voltage to the pump during drain.
  • Prime and test: Reassemble, pour some water into the sump, restore power, and start a drain/test cycle to confirm proper operation and that E13 clears.

Tip: Regular cleaning of the drain path reduces pump failures and error codes.
