Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator plate, Damaged sensor harness due to ice buildup, Faulty main control PCB sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect the ice maker from power before opening any panels. Beware of sharp metal edges and ice on the evaporator.

Steps to address E2:

  • Defrost the unit: If there is heavy ice buildup on the evaporator plate, allow the unit to defrost fully (leave door open and unplugged for several hours, protect the floor from water). Excess ice can pull or break the sensor.
  • Access the evaporator sensor: Remove the front or side service panel (depending on model). Locate the NTC sensor clipped or bonded to the evaporator/ice plate assembly.
  • Check sensor position: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface. If it has come loose, reattach using the original clip or a new thermal clip/paste as specified by Vestfrost.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor cable back to the main PCB. Look for cuts, crushed sections, or corroded connectors. Reseat the connector.
  • Test the sensor: With the sensor unplugged and the unit off, measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Vestfrost specifications for the approximate evaporator temperature. Replace the evaporator NTC sensor if readings are open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • PCB check: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly. Replacement of the main control PCB is likely required.

Note: Do not operate the unit with the sensor bypassed; this can cause severe icing or compressor damage.
