Possible Causes

Dirty water reservoir or bin, Biofilm or algae in water lines, Contaminated water supply, Absorption of odors from nearby chemicals or foods

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and close the water supply before cleaning. Use only food-safe cleaners and descalers.

Steps to improve taste and odor:

  • Discard old ice: Empty the ice bin completely and discard any stored ice.
  • Clean bin and interior: Wash the ice bin and interior surfaces with warm water and a mild, food-safe detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Descale water circuit: Follow the Vestfrost instructions to run a descaling cycle using an approved ice machine cleaner. Flush with fresh water afterward.
  • Check water source: If possible, connect the ice maker to a filtered cold water supply. Avoid connecting to hot water lines.
  • Remove odor sources: Keep cleaning chemicals, paints, or strong-smelling items away from the ice maker area.

Note: It may take several batches of new ice for taste to normalize after cleaning.
