Viking ice maker shows E2 and shuts down ice production

Safety first: Disconnect power before working inside the cabinet. Melted ice and water can create slip hazards; keep towels handy.

• Step 1 – Empty the bin: Remove all ice from the storage bin so you can access the bin thermistor or ice level sensor assembly.
• Step 2 – Locate bin sensor: On Viking units, the bin sensor may be a thermistor mounted on the bin wall or a small plastic housing near the top of the bin. Follow the wires back to the control board.
• Step 3 – Check mounting and cleanliness: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached and not covered in ice, scale, or debris. Clean gently with a soft cloth and warm water; avoid harsh chemicals.
• Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Look for pinched, cut, or corroded wires and connectors. Reseat the connector at the control board.
• Step 5 – Test thermistor (if applicable): With a multimeter, measure resistance and compare to the Viking spec chart. Replace the bin thermistor if readings are out of range or open/shorted.
• Step 6 – Replace sensor assembly if defective: Remove mounting screws or clips, install the new bin sensor or thermistor, and route the harness away from moving parts and sharp edges.
• Step 7 – Control board check: If a known-good sensor still triggers E2, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement.

Restore power and verify that the unit resumes ice production and that the E2 code does not reappear.
