Possible Causes

Clogged drain line, Failed drain pump, Kinked or elevated drain hose, Blocked drain outlet or air gap, Faulty pump wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and turn off water. Expect standing water in the reservoir or drain pan; use towels and a shallow container.

  • Step 1 – Inspect drain hose: Check behind and under the unit for kinks, sags, or sharp bends in the drain hose. Ensure the hose runs downhill to the drain and is not inserted too far into a standpipe.
  • Step 2 – Clear obstructions: Disconnect the drain hose at the back and blow through it or flush with warm water to remove clogs. Clean any external air gap or trap.
  • Step 3 – Access drain pump: Remove the front kick plate and lower panel to locate the drain pump. Check for debris in the pump inlet and impeller housing. Remove any obstructions.
  • Step 4 – Test pump operation: With power restored and the unit calling for drain, measure voltage at the pump terminals. If correct voltage is present but the pump does not run or only hums, replace the drain pump.
  • Step 5 – Inspect wiring and connectors: Ensure all pump wires are secure and not corroded. Repair or replace damaged harnesses.

After clearing the drain system and/or replacing the pump, restore power, clear the E8 code, and run a test cycle to confirm proper draining.
