Possible Causes
Misadjusted ice thickness sensor, Sticking water inlet valve, Faulty water level control, Scale buildup affecting sensor readings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and water before servicing sensors or valves.
- Step 1 – Inspect ice thickness sensor: Ensure the probe is correctly positioned and not bent closer to the evaporator than specified. Adjust per the service manual.
- Step 2 – Check for overfilling: Observe a cycle to see if the reservoir overfills or water continues to trickle in when it should be off. If so, the inlet valve may be sticking open and should be replaced.
- Step 3 – Clean scale: Run a descaling cycle to remove mineral deposits from the evaporator and sensor surfaces, which can cause incorrect thickness detection.
- Step 4 – Verify water level control: Inspect and test the float or electronic level sensor. Replace if it does not reliably stop fill at the correct level.
After corrections, monitor several cycles to ensure ice thickness and cube separation are normal.
